Looking to start your tobacco business?
Growing tobacco isn’t something one can start doing overnight. Luckily for you we have been perfecting our ways for growing tobacco from the past decade and we are open to work with new budding brands to help grow each other.
Here is some insight on how we work
How we do things at RIT
Tobacco cultivation requires passion, dedication and commitment. The history of man and tobacco is several thousand years old. From stone carvings by the Maya Indians we know they used tobacco for religious ceremonies. Smoke is visible and one of the few things that go from earth into the sky.
It all starts inside large greenhouses where the tiny tobacco seeds are planted. Once the fledgling tobacco plant shoots its first leaves, it is moved outside into the fields, where it grows up to 3 metres tall in some cases.
Harvest time varies according to the type of tobacco and several methods are used during the curing phase. Virginia tobacco is cured by the heat generated inside the piping that runs across the rooms where the tobacco leaves are stored; Burley tobacco undergoes an open-air curing process, sheltered from direct sunlight; the smoke generated by fire boxes placed underneath the leaves lies at the heart of the curing process used for dark-fired Kentucky tobacco; the small leaves of Oriental tobacco are instead spread out in the sun like clothes hung out to dry.
We select and import only the best leaves
A quality product cannot exist if the raw material used to make it is of poor quality. For us here at Royal International Tobacco, selecting only the best leaves from the best varieties of tobacco is of fundamental importance. Our Tobacco experts and specialists personally conduct the selection of raw materials by travelling each year to the most dispersed places notably the Northern Valleys of Pakistan in search of the best tobacco leaves testing various blends form variety of local farmers.
To make sure that our blends contain the lowest possible number of imperfections, the majority is stripped leaves, whose main stem has been manually removed after curing.
WE BLEND TOBACCO SKILFULLY TO ACHIEVE THE PERFECT FLAVOUR
The blends we produce in our plant contain up to 8 different types of tobacco. Our warehouses are used to store enough tobacco leaves to guarantee production for about a whole year, and we keep a sufficient number of varieties in order to cope with running out of a particular type of tobacco, replacing it with another one that guarantees the same end result.
This process is only possible thanks to the expert hands and the first-class noses of our master blenders and specialists, who possess the necessary know-how and experience to ensure the end product is appreciated by those smokers who choose to try it. Also a major key player in our robust supply chain has to be out state of the art warehouse in Jebel Ali Free Zone which is our biggest one till date.
WE PREPARE TOBACCO SO THAT IT CAN BE PROCESSED IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY
The tobacco that reaches our plant has an average moisture content of 7%, which is far too low to avoid the leaves getting ruined during the production process. For this reason, steam is gently added to render the leaves pliable and flexible, the ideal condition to be able to proceed with the subsequent steps.
For us here at Royal International Tobacco, quality is everything and we want those who try our products to perceive this from the moment they open the packet. Our tobaccos, whose leaves are free of their central stem, are processed again with the aim of also removing the side veins to obtain a product that is as clean as possible.
Subsequently, the tobacco is left to stand to make sure that the entire batch has the same degree of humidity, a requirement to ensure the successful outcome of the subsequent phases.
Our Secrete Touch
It should be no surprise the main secrete of you our product which gives it the pure natural aroma blend with the perfect texture had been kept tight lip and handed down only to a handful of people within the company.
Finding the right combination of ingredients to bring out certain characteristics of a particular tobacco without radically changing its natural aromas is a genuine art-form, which very few people in the world know how to do.
The process, which is referred to as “casing”, is very simple. Simply fill a small tank with water, add certain ingredients and boil for about 4 hours. Once this is done, the liquid is added to the tobacco which is subsequently left to stand to ensure the ingredient to be included in the leaf.
The quality of the ingredients is fundamental for the successful outcome of the casing process. Here at Royal International Tobacco, we only use the finest, all-natural ingredients.
